"I'm a 74 year old woman who started doing Pilates 18 months ago. I had a very slight stroke 4 years ago and recovered well but was feeling unsteady and had more aches and pains than before my stroke. My friend, Kerry, was becoming a certified Pilates instructor and offered to take me on as a client. Pilates 4 Bodies is a beautiful, clean and comfortable studio. "When I began Pilates I had been suffering from plantar fasciitis and a chronic injury to both of my feet, which had rendered me virtually inactive - I could not walk or stand for any length of time and, on a recent trip, had even resorted to using a wheelchair at times. After 2 years of dedicated practice of physical therapy with minimal improvement, I was looking for something new to try that might bring me some relief and help me return to a normal range of activities. I had heard of Pilates but did not really know what it entailed. I was surprised to find in my first session with Kerry that it felt invigorating and did not cause pain to my feet or aggravate the injured areas. I was even more surprised when I got out of bed the very next day and was able to stand up with the least amount of pain since I had been injured. As I continued to practice Pilates I experienced wave after wave of improvement. I began to be able to stay on my feet for longer periods of time without pain and restricted movement.
Before I began Pilates, I had been worried that I wouldn’t understand the different positions but Kerry is such a gifted instructor! She clearly describes how to perform each movement and closely guides each student to insure they are safely completing each action so that they won’t injure themselves but will gradually strengthen and rehabilitate their core muscle groups. Best of all, she’s so encouraging and fun to work with - the time just flies by! I love the group classes as well, because we all support each other. It’s a collaborative environment, instead of competitive, which is not always the case in other types of exercise.
After 2 months of classes, I just went on my first run in 2 years! I am filled with such gratitude for Kerry and how she has been able to help me through Pilates. When you lose something like your mobility and then receive it back it feels like such a gift. I now have hope I will be able to return to hiking Colorado’s summits this summer which I was beginning to fear I might never do again. As a side benefit, but one in which I’m greatly appreciating, is the return of strength, flexibility and balance. Thank you Kerry and Pilates 4 Bodies!"
